Gear Lab #3: What’s the best all around camera mic?

Gear Lab #3: What’s the best all around camera mic?

Getting usable sound from a camera mounted microphone isn’t really that difficult. You just need to choose the right one for the job. I’ve seen camera operators attach all kinds of goofy mics to their cameras – and often the recording is pretty much trash.

So, which mic do I use for a camera mic? Well, for me, it’s the Sennheiser ME64. Check out Gear Lab #3: Camera Microphones, to find out why.

    Dean,

Can you please tell me which shock mount you recommend for use with the ME64 on a C100?

    Thank you,

What is the device that you are using to hold the microphone ‘up’ from the camera microphone mount. The device seems to fit in the camera’s microphone holder and allow you to have the microphone up higher…who makes that…?

Great review, thanks for posting. Just curious about which shockmount you have the mic attached to? Looks like a solid build.
    Thanks,
    Dom

Hi Dom, it’s an older K-Tek shock mount for a boom pole with a small spud adaptor for camera mic holders – Scot has had it for years. I know you can’t purchase them new anymore, but I’d head down to your favourite video/audio retailer and see what they’ve got. Take your camera to make sure it’ll fit.
